We’re making improvements to the website to help members access learning materials, find coaching support and contact the right people. Here’s an update on upcoming courses, support for Area Coaches and other developments for our members.

Coaching courses and learning materials

Level 1 courses will restart in December 2026, followed by Level 2 courses in February 2027.

Applicants for both levels will receive links to their training manual and journal once payment has been received, giving them time to read the materials before the course begins. Trainers will continue to receive copies in advance to help them prepare.

The Level 1 manuals will be ready for the website in early November 2026 and will be released as soon as they have been practically tested, with access provided after payment. Copies will be forwarded to relevant applicants who have already paid once the manuals are released.

Safeguarding

A new safeguarding course is planned for December 2026. It will be available online through the EBCS website, making it easy to access and complete at a time that suits you.

The course will cover safeguarding for adults and under-18s, with content directly relevant to bowls coaching. Completion will be valid for three years.

The initial price will be £25, offering good value compared with other courses costing £40 or more.

Support for Area Coaches

Area Coaches will have a dedicated sign-in to help them stay informed and find support in their own and other areas. This will provide:

  • A dedicated news and updates section to keep Area Coaches informed.
  • Lists of Assessors, Trainers and Coaches, with email contact details, in their own and other areas—making it easier to find the support they need.
  • A way to contact people directly from their information page.

In a later phase, Area Coaches will be able to receive local training requests, allocate Trainers and Assessors, and notify the Coaching and Membership Directors. Directors and other existing users will continue to have access to their current information.

Phil Hensher, the Coaching Development Director, will shortly contact everyone who has applied to become an Area Coach, Trainer or Assessor. He will then confirm appointments.

Who to contact: Directors’ roles and enquiries

The website contact form will be updated to help enquiries reach the right person. Please choose the category below that best matches your message:

  • Chairman: EBCS policy and strategic direction.
  • Secretary: General Society matters, DBS and merchandise.
  • Membership Director: Membership matters, including payments.
  • Finance Director: Financial matters, including queries and payments due for courses etc.
  • Coaching Director: Overall coaching policy, the production and updating of all training materials, and safeguarding. Choose this category for messages about coaching policy, training materials or safeguarding.
  • Coaching Development: The Coaching Development Director organises and runs all EBCS courses, working with Area Coaches, Assessors and Trainers. Choose this category for messages about course organisation, course delivery or coordination with Area Coaches, Assessors and Trainers.
  • Communications Director: Website and Facebook content, website announcements and other communications matters.
  • General: Enquiries to the Club Secretary when your message is not relevant to any Director. To help us respond promptly, please choose a specific category whenever it fits your enquiry. Using General may delay a response while your message is directed to the appropriate person.

Keeping in touch on Facebook

Our Facebook page gives members a place to communicate with one another, share news and ideas, and take part in conversations. The public website will feature an advert and a link to the page to make it easier to find. You’re welcome to join in and keep in touch with fellow members and interested members of the public.

Directors do not routinely monitor Facebook, so choosing the appropriate contact category on the website will help your message reach the right person.

Merchandise ideas

We have now received our first delivery of tops and Carol is busy posting out .

We’re exploring additional items for our merchandise range and are currently researching jackets and caps. These items are under consideration and may or may not be approved. If you have suggestions for other items, please contact the Club Secretary.

Website problems

The website has had a great launch, with very few problems. The issues we encountered have now been fixed, and we’re moving on to upgrades and minor behind-the-scenes improvements to keep the site working well for members.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support, patience and enthusiasm. We’re looking forward to renewing and strengthening coaching across EBCS, working together to support our coaches and help members develop their skills. Your involvement and ideas will be an important part of this next chapter.
